Chronic Kidney Disease
What is Chronic Kidney Disease?
The medical condition needs effective treatment on time to avoid various health risks and complications.
Causes of chronic kidney disease
Anyone can be attacked by chronic kidney disease. However, some individuals are at higher risk as compared to others.
Some of the main causes of CKD include:
- Diabetes
- Heart disease
- Hypertension
- Family history of kidney disease
- Repeated urine infections
- Being more than 60 years old
Symptoms of chronic kidney disease
The symptoms of CKD show up over time because of its slow progression. The general symptoms to look out for include:
- Vomiting
- Nausea
- Fatigue
- Weakness
- Loss of appetite
- Irregular urination
- Sleep issues
- Decreased mental sharpness
- Muscle twitches and cramps
- Persistent itching
- Swelling of ankles and feet
- Chest pain (when there’s fluid buildup around the lining of the heart)
- Shortness of breath (fluid buildup in the lungs)
- Uncontrolled high blood pressure
The potential signs of CKD are nonspecific in most cases, and they show up late until extreme damage is done.
When to see a doctor
Regular health checkups every 6 months or one year is the best way to check for chronic kidney disease. If you have a health condition like diabetes or hypertension that increases the risk of CKD, you should go see your doctor. Your doctor will diagnose the condition by carrying out some medical tests, such as blood tests, urine tests, monitoring your blood pressure, etc.
If you have recently noticed any symptoms associated with chronic kidney disease, make an appointment with Dr M. V. Rao and get reliable diagnosis and treatment.
