What is Typhoid Fever?
Typhoid fever is contagious – the person infected can pass it to the bodies getting close or by any kind of contact (direct or indirect).
Causes of typhoid fever
Typically, typhoid is a water-borne disease that indicates consuming contaminated water or food prepared using contaminated water. The bacterium resides in water and contaminates it. People having an acute illness can infect the surrounding water supply through stool. The bacteria is present in high concentration in the stool.
Contamination of water supply can lead to contamination of food supply. The bacteria can live for weeks in dried sewage or water.
Symptoms of typhoid fever
The signs of typhoid fever develop eventually as the condition worsens. The initial signs and symptoms include:
- Headache
- Sweating
- Fever (starts low and increases with each passing day, reaching to 104.9 degrees Fahrenheit)
- Rash
- Dry cough
- Muscle aches
- Loss of appetite
- Weight loss
- Fatigue and weakness
- Extremely swollen stomach
- Diarrhea or constipation
- Stomach pain
Serious symptoms
If not treated after the early symptoms, the patient may:
- Become delirious
- Lie motionless in bed
- Get completely exhausted with eyes half-closed
These symptoms indicate life-threatening conditions.
